Why this blog?

November 6, 2021

The Fountains Residents Network (blog) came into being in April 2014 when a group of concerned residents joined together to establish a means for our community to interact and communicate with each other.

Communication in the Fountains and the Courts about what was happening on many issues was variously slow, incomplete, spotty, non-existent and highly subject to rumor.  There were complex issues that, among others, included mandatory membership in the Fountains Country Club (FCC), a failed mediation agreement between the Fountains Condominium Operations (FCO), and the FCC, etc.

The issues within our community have changed.  Many residents are not even aware of the issues that had the greatest influence on the blog’s creation.  While the issues have changed the reason for the blog has not.

As we enter the year 2021, we think it is important that the original purposes continue.  However, we think that it is time to tweak its purpose to better serve the community.  The answers to “Why this blog” are:

  • Serve as a forum to discuss issues of interest to the community.
  • Serve as a forum to discuss ways to improve the Fountains for the future.
  • Serve as a forum through which we can discuss our differences openly and respectfully.
  • Serve as a place where residents can inform the community about real, emerging, and potential issues that may affect us.
  • Serve as a place for residents to keep the community informed about upcoming local events.
  • Serve as a place for residents to notify the community about items of interest to other residents, e.g., new neighbors, the passing of relatives and neighbors, etc.
  • Serve as a place where residents can ask neighbors for advice or assistance on any issue, e.g., name of a contractor, borrow a tool, help with a project, etc.
  • Serve as a place to communicate any other issue, topic, request, or offer related to the community.

The need for open and readily accessible civil dialogue and information is always useful.  It is especially so at the Fountains of Palm Beach because many residents are “out of town” for substantial periods of time.  This blog is often the only way they can keep abreast of what is happening.  Hopefully, this blog will help change our lives for the better.

Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

The following statement for “Why this blog?” is superseded by the above statement dated January 1, 2021

April 18, 2014

It was inevitable. There are so many unanswered questions floating around the Fountains, and with the internet available, it was just a matter of time before this blog came to be.

Hopefully answers will soon be forthcoming and issues will become clearer.
.
Currently, communication in the Fountains and the Courts about what is happening on many issues has been variously slow, incomplete, spotty, non-existent and highly subject to rumor. Think mandatory membership, for instance, or the failed mediation/recreation agreement.
.
Surface mail still appears to be the main method of informing owners – slow, costly, difficult to discuss. Lack of information leaves people vulnerable, hesitant to act, perhaps intimidated. This blog can remedy most of that.
.
Our Board Members need support. Anyone who has been on a non-profit board knows it’s often a thankless and difficult job. This is particularly so when hard decisions have to be made and there’s little sense of the community’s position. It must be especially difficult for those Board Presidents in the 7 northern courts who are FCC members to maintain focus. This blog could give all Board members input which will hopefully help in their decision making.
.
Most of us who own a home in the Fountains love being here. We want the Fountains to thrive and we want good relations with our neighbors. Currently there is a great deal of tension between those against mandatory membership and those for it. It is hoped that this blog will serve as a forum through which we can discuss our differences openly and respectfully. It is also hoped that the blog will serve as a positive way to discuss ways to improve the Fountains for the future.
.

Your thoughts are welcome.
